According to ABC News, Perfection Fresh Australia has admitted fixing the price of broccoli, cauliflower and iceberg lettuce supplied to Aldi stores in New South Wales. The supplier admitted engaging in “cartel conduct” on 11 occasions between 2019 and 2020.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission began civil proceedings in the Federal Court in September 2025 against four vegetable-growing companies and three individuals, including Perfection Fresh. The wider case concerns allegations that suppliers worked together to illegally fix fresh-produce prices for Aldi stores in NSW, Victoria and Queensland between 2018 and 2024.

Perfection Fresh has agreed to pay a $12 million penalty, subject to approval by the Federal Court at a later date. While the company admitted 11 instances of price fixing, the court can penalise only 10: nine contraventions and one attempted contravention. The remaining instance falls outside the period in which a penalty can be applied.

ACCC Commissioner Luke Woodward said cartel conduct “undermines competition” and can raise prices, harming consumers and increasing the cost of doing business. Proceedings against the remaining suppliers — Hydro Produce, Veli Velisha Fresh Produce and Velisha National Farms, and M Fragapane & Sons — are continuing.
