Arabic version: اتهام رجل من بيرث بالتخطيط المزعوم لهجوم إرهابي
According to ABC News, a 22-year-old Perth man has appeared in Perth Magistrates Court after allegedly obtaining explosives in preparation for a terrorist act.
Lucas Shawn Cameron allegedly researched material online, held conversations about attack methods and obtained a machete in November and December last year, the court heard. Police also allege he sought assistance through a messaging platform on explosive devices, military and tactical training, weapons manufacturing, combat techniques and fake documents.
Mr Cameron appeared by video link from custody. When Magistrate Ben Tyers asked whether he understood the charge, he said he did.
He is charged with doing an act in preparation for a terrorist act, possessing violent extremist material and accessing violent extremist material. He had already faced multiple terrorism-related charges, although three of those charges have been discontinued.
Federal police first arrested Mr Cameron after raiding his home in Westminster, in Perth’s north, and seizing two computers and a mobile phone. Details of the alleged plot are not yet known. He is due to return to Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on November 11.
