According to ABC News,

South Australia Police have confirmed that the remains found in bushland south of Adelaide last week have been identified as Jeffrey Robert Mundy. The decomposed body was discovered by a bushwalker who was looking at wildlife off Mount Alma Road at Inman Valley at about 5:30 PM last Friday. Mr. Mundy was last seen by his family on Saturday, December 19, 2020, in the Seaford area, south of Adelaide.

The disappearance of Mr. Mundy had been declared a major crime and was investigated by the Major Crime Investigation Branch under Taskforce Southern. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke stated that now that Mr. Mundy’s remains have been located, they will be reviewing all aspects of the initial investigation.

Police believe there are people who know what happened to Mr. Mundy and have offered a $200,000 reward for anyone who has information that leads to an arrest. Detective Superintendent Fielke noted that it has been over five years since Mr. Mundy went missing and urged anyone with knowledge to come forward.

In a statement read out on behalf of Mr. Mundy’s family, his father, Rob, thanked detectives for their work during this devastating time. He expressed immense gratitude to the person who found Jeff, stating, “For five-and-a-half years, our family has lived with unbearable ache, the pain of not knowing what happened to Jeff or where he was.” Rob described Mr. Mundy as “a father, a loving son, a brother and an uncle” and reiterated their plea for anyone with information to assist the police. He expressed relief that they can now lay Jeff to rest with love and the dignity he deserves.
