According to ABC News, SA Police are investigating reports of fights at Glenelg and Henley Beach after videos posted online showed separate brawls watched by hundreds of young people. The incidents occurred on Tuesday, with footage also showing large groups of youths running across roads in front of traffic.

Police said a small number of people were involved in fighting while most young people attended as spectators after being alerted through social media. Acting Assistant Commissioner David O’Donovan said officers attended Henley Square following reports of an affray, but most of the crowd had dispersed before they arrived.

Videos showed fighting on the Glenelg shore and at Henley Square. In one clip, a woman attempting to separate two boys wrestling on the beach was hit with water bottles. Police said they had received no reports of assaults or injuries resulting from the incidents.

Western District officers are examining social media platforms to assess the level of organisation behind the events and identify and locate those responsible. SA Police said adequate resources had been deployed in response to increased beach crowds as Adelaide’s temperature rose above 34 degrees Celsius.

Mr O’Donovan said police were considering bringing forward Operation Jericho, an initiative targeting crime and public disorder along the metropolitan coast during summer. City of Charles Sturt Mayor Angela Evans said reports of the Henley Beach incidents were concerning and noted that CCTV installed at Henley Square earlier this year provides real-time footage accessible to the council and SAPOL.
