Police have named the two victims of a house explosion in Bristol as Jo Shaw, 35, and her former partner Ryan Kelly, 41. The incident occurred after Kelly forced his way into Shaw’s home in Bristol while in possession of an explosive device.
According to BBC News, three other individuals, including the person who reported the incident, sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. The local police have classified Shaw’s death as a homicide, based on current information.
Superintendent Matt Ebbs of Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior contact with Shaw regarding domestic incidents. He expressed condolences to Shaw’s family and acknowledged the community’s interest in the case while requesting privacy for those affected.
The police received a call reporting a domestic disturbance at 06:17 BST, indicating that an intruder had entered the property. The explosion occurred shortly after, at approximately 06:32 BST. Emergency services arrived promptly, and a bomb disposal team conducted thorough searches of the area.
Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing, with police activity expected to continue at the explosion site. Superintendent Ebbs emphasized that the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related and that the explosion appears to be deliberate. The analysis of the explosive device is still underway, and the coroner will ultimately determine the cause of death.
