Arabic version: الشرطة تحقق في طعن رجلين يهوديين باعتباره إرهاباً
According to BBC News,
Two Jewish men, aged 34 and 76, have been stabbed in Golders Green, north London, an attack police have declared as a terrorist incident. Both victims remain in a stable condition in hospital, while a 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack. This incident follows a spate of arson attacks against Jewish property in London in recent weeks.
The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of the stabbings at 11:16 BST on Wednesday. CCTV footage shows the suspect jogging along Highfield Avenue and attacking a man before pursuing another victim at a bus stop. Police were able to detain the suspect after deploying a Taser and administering CPR, as he was believed to pose an ongoing threat.
The arrested individual is a British national, born in Somalia. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley indicated that the suspect refused to comply with police commands and was acting violently. Authorities are investigating whether the attack was deliberately targeting the Jewish community.
In response to the incident, Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis expressed sorrow over the safety of visibly Jewish individuals in the community. London Mayor Sadiq Khan condemned the attack, stating that it is unacceptable for Jewish people to live in fear. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer described the attack as “utterly appalling,” emphasizing that such acts against the Jewish community are attacks on Britain itself.
The investigation continues as police search related addresses and examine any potential links to other incidents reported earlier in the day.
