According to ABC News, an 80-year-old man was seriously injured and another man was taken into custody after an unmarked police vehicle collided with a civilian car during a police pursuit in Perth’s south.

WA Police said officers had been pursuing a stolen car through several suburbs on Monday morning. The pursuit ended when the police vehicle collided with a white Hyundai Accent that was turning across South Street at the intersection of Beasley Road in Leeming.

The Hyundai driver was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries under the highest priority. A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s who were in the police vehicle were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The crash scattered debris across South Street. The Hyundai’s engine was ejected and landed 50 metres away on the opposite side of the six-lane road, while the unmarked police vehicle was about 90 metres further down the road with a smashed windscreen and a road sign lodged in its bonnet.

Police later tracked the stolen car to a caravan park in Coogee with the help of a helicopter. Its 27-year-old driver allegedly fled on foot before officers took him into custody. South Street was closed westbound between Vahland Avenue and Darian Drive as police directed traffic.
