According to ABC News, Victoria Police are searching for a man believed to be armed with an axe and a handsaw after three people were allegedly attacked in Gippsland.

Police said the man, who is known to the victims, allegedly attacked an elderly man, an elderly woman and another man at an address on Cowies Road in Tyers at about 12:30pm on Saturday.

The suspect, described as being in his 50s, fled the address. The victims were able to call emergency services. Police said the elderly man and the second man were airlifted to a Melbourne hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the elderly woman sustained critical injuries and was taken to hospital.

A large-scale search was under way for the alleged offender. He was last seen wearing a black-and-mustard-coloured jacket and carrying a black backpack.
