Arabic version: الشرطة تبحث عن المريض الثالث الذي هرب من مستشفى كمبرلاند
A third mental health patient has escaped from Cumberland Hospital, prompting police to launch a search. Madan Pandey, 25, was last seen on Saturday morning about 9:30am as he left the facility, wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts. According to ABC News, authorities have expressed concerns for his welfare.
This incident follows the escape of two other patients who allegedly went on to cause the deaths of three individuals in separate incidents. The hospital is currently under formal investigation due to these alarming events.
Setefano Mooniai Leaaetoa, 25, is accused of fatally stabbing one person and critically injuring two others on a busy shopping strip in Merrylands shortly after escaping. Luke Peter Francis, another patient, allegedly caused a fatal crash that killed a 60-year-old woman and her 84-year-old passenger just days after his escape from the same facility.
Data from NSW Health indicates that patients are three times more likely to abscond from Cumberland Hospital compared to other mental health units in the state. On average, an acute mental health patient in NSW escapes every 4,348 days, while at Cumberland, the rate is significantly higher at every 1,333 days.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on Madan Pandey’s whereabouts to contact Parramatta Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
