Arabic version: الشرطة تطلب معلومات بعد إطلاق نار قاتل في توماستاون
According to ABC News, police are investigating the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Daniel Hussein at HR Uren Reserve in Thomastown, in Melbourne’s north. Hussein was shot in front of friends at about 7.30pm on Sunday, and paramedics attempted to revive him before he died at the scene.
Hussein’s family said he was a plumber who was engaged to be married and had bought a house. His brother said Hussein had “his whole life ahead of him” and was not involved in criminal activity, adding that he had been at the park to help a friend.
His uncle, Abdallah Hussein, wrote on social media that he could not believe his nephew was gone. He said the family’s pain was enormous and described Hussein as “a piece of my heart.”
The shooting occurred near the Lalor Soccer Club, where junior matches had been played several hours earlier. The club’s president said the incident was not related to the club and noted that hundreds of children had taken part in the final junior event earlier in the day.
A nearby resident said about 50 people gathered shortly after the shooting and that neighbours were shaken. The shooter remains on the run. Police have urged anyone with information or footage to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
