Authorities are actively searching for Madan Pandey, a 25-year-old mental health patient who failed to return to Cumberland Hospital after an approved leave. According to ABC News, Pandey was last seen leaving the facility on Saturday morning around 9:30 AM.
The Western Sydney Local Health District confirmed that Pandey did not return at the scheduled time on February 21. Following standard protocol, NSW Police were notified immediately, and an appeal for public assistance was launched to locate him.
Pandey is described as being of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance, with short black hair, a full beard, and a moustache. Concerns for his welfare have been raised by both police and family members, prompting the search.
Cumberland Hospital is currently under scrutiny due to a recent series of incidents involving escaped patients. Two individuals who fled the hospital allegedly caused three deaths, raising alarms about the facility’s safety protocols. Data shows that patients are three times more likely to abscond from Cumberland Hospital compared to other mental health units in New South Wales.
Authorities urge anyone with information on Madan Pandey’s whereabouts to contact Parramatta Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
