According to ABC News, former Port Adelaide forward Daniel Stewart has died suddenly at the age of 37. The AFL club described his death as devastating and said it would support people affected by his passing.

Stewart played 36 games and kicked 31 goals for the Power across four seasons from 2010 to 2013. Drafted in the 2009 rookie draft, he was promoted to Port Adelaide’s senior list at the end of that season.

Originally from Victoria, Stewart joined the Power from SANFL side North Adelaide after playing for the Eastern Ranges and AFL Queensland club Labrador. His best AFL goal return was four in Port Adelaide’s 10-point win against Richmond at Docklands in the final round of 2010.

Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson extended condolences to Stewart’s family, including his parents Donna and Byron, wife Laura, sons Bernie and Lando, and brother Leigh. The club also recognised his friends, former teammate Matt Thomas, and those at North Adelaide and Labrador who knew him.

Port Adelaide said Stewart would remain part of the club’s football family. It will honour him by wearing black armbands at its first home game of the 2027 season at Adelaide Oval.
