According to ABC News, Powerhouse Parramatta will open to the public on November 7, four years after construction began. The $915 million museum will become Western Sydney’s first state cultural institution, following the New South Wales government’s announcement in May that construction had been completed.

The museum has seven expansive zones, including an 18-metre-high space covering more than 2,200 square metres. That area will host Task Eternal, described as Australia’s largest exhibition about space exploration. The exhibition will include the historic Qantas Avro 504k aircraft.

The first five exhibitions will present more than 3,000 objects. More than 1,600 of those objects are from the Powerhouse collection, while other items have been sourced from collections around the world. A second major exhibition, The Mall, will examine the history, evolution and cultural significance of the shopping mall.

NSW Arts Minister John Graham called the opening a “big moment” for arts and culture in Western Sydney and said entry would be free. Powerhouse CEO Lisa Havilah said the museum was built for the future, bringing local knowledge together with global perspectives, and said it would open with five world-class exhibitions and a program intended to reflect the communities it serves.
