South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit presided over the inauguration ceremony of a new Presbyterian church. He officially opened the church and handed it over to the administration for use.

In his remarks, President Kiir emphasized the government’s ongoing support for religious communities across the country. He was accompanied by senior government officials, foreign diplomats, and other faith leaders.

The President highlighted the significant role of the Church in promoting peace through the preaching of the word of God. The event was attended by pastors and the entire congregation.

The Church leadership, represented by Moderator James Makuei Chuol, expressed gratitude to the President for accepting their invitation. He stated that the congregation was pleased with the President’s actions. The Moderator stressed that the Church is non-partisan and welcomes everyone to pray, regardless of their nationality or tribal affiliation.

South Sudan hosts various types of churches, and religious freedom has led to increased participation among the youth. However, an analyst criticized some church leaders for turning religious institutions into businesses, which could detract from the future development of young people.
