During the opening parliamentary session in South Sudan, President Salva Kirr made several directives to various ministries. He instructed the Ministry of Finance and Planning to organize the South Sudanese national efforts to secure their rightful place in the region. Additionally, he urged the country’s Foreign Affairs Minister to implement a good foreign policy that will reestablish the country’s position on the world map and to push for lifting the sanctions imposed on the country by the United Nations Security Council, which included an arms embargo.

As per the President’s directives, the Foreign Affairs Minister will work closely with African unions to resolve border tensions with their neighboring countries. The President also mentioned last month’s border clash between South Sudan and Kenya at the checkpoint, which Nairobi denied, blaming Juba for sending a diplomatic bag on the matter.

The President has directed the National Transitional Committee (NTC) and the Joint Defense Board (JDB) to expedite the completion of phase one of Chapter 11 on security arrangements. On Chapter five, the committee and the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs have already started their work and are preparing to hold a conference to inform the country about the draft establishment of the Commission of Truth, Reconciliation, and Healing (CTRH).

President Kirr Salva Kirr stated that his government would continue to observe a foreign policy based on the principles of cooperation and not interfere in other countries’ affairs. Acknowledging that the country is facing economic fallout, he announced that the country would soon host a conference on the economy to bring together sectors and address fundamental challenges. The President called on leaders to work hard to implement the remaining balance of peace.
