Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has marked the beginning of Ramadan with a message recognising both the spiritual significance of the holy month and the enduring contributions of Muslim Australians to the nation’s social fabric.

In his official Ramadan message issued in February 2026, the Prime Minister described the sacred weeks as a time for reflection, forgiveness and acts of kindness, noting that the observance embodies compassion, gratitude and togetherness.

He highlighted the longstanding presence of Muslims in Australia, acknowledging generations who have enriched the country through their work ethic, aspirations and strong sense of community. Their contributions, he noted, form part of a “long and proud story” that continues to shape Australia’s multicultural identity.

The message also reaffirmed a broader national principle — that Australia’s unity and success are grounded in the right of every individual to practise their faith freely and safely. The Prime Minister emphasised that safeguarding this shared foundation remains a collective responsibility.

At the same time, the statement acknowledged the emotional toll that conflict in the Middle East has taken on Muslim communities across Australia. While expressing cautious encouragement at emerging signs of peace, the Prime Minister recognised that healing and resolution remain ongoing challenges.

Concluding his message, he expressed hope that Ramadan would offer strength, comfort and a sense of connection for those observing it — a period surrounded by faith, support and community.

The message reflects a continued emphasis on inclusivity and shared national values during a time that holds deep spiritual meaning for Muslims throughout Australia.
