Arabic version: الأميرة كيت تزور إيطاليا في أول رحلة بعد التعافي من السرطان
Princess Kate has embarked on her first official overseas visit since her cancer diagnosis, touring the Italian city of Reggio Emilia, known for its innovative early childhood education. According to ABC News, the visit is part of her ongoing commitment to championing childhood development.
Hundreds of supporters gathered in the city’s main square to welcome the Princess of Wales, waving Union Jacks and holding a banner that read “Ciao Kate.” This two-day visit highlights her focus on improving education for young children, a central theme of her public work.
During her visit, Princess Kate is expected to receive the Primo Tricolore, Reggio Emilia’s highest civic honour, in recognition of her advocacy for early childhood education. She will meet with educators, parents, and local officials to discuss the city’s unique approach to child development, which emphasizes community involvement and the connection between nature and learning.
In a light-hearted moment, the princess interacted with local children, speaking Italian and introducing herself as “Catherine,” much to the delight of a preschool girl named Camilla. The visit will include tours of two public pre-schools that embody the Reggio Emilia approach, characterized by open communal spaces and creative learning environments.
The historical significance of Reggio Emilia’s educational model dates back to the post-World War Two era, when local women helped establish some of Italy’s first nursery schools. This visit marks a significant milestone for Princess Kate, as it aligns with her long-standing commitment to early childhood education.
