Arabic version: أميرة ويلز تستأنف واجباتها الرسمية بزيارة إلى إيطاليا
The Princess of Wales, Catherine, is set to embark on her first official overseas engagement in over three years with a trip to Italy next week. The visit, scheduled for 13 and 14 May, will focus on her campaign for early childhood education and will take place in Reggio Emilia, a city renowned for its innovative approach to early years learning.
According to BBC News, the trip marks a significant milestone in Catherine’s return to royal duties following her treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer. The princess expressed enthusiasm for the visit, indicating her interest in observing how the Reggio Emilia philosophy fosters environments conducive to children’s development through personal relationships and play-based learning.
During her two-day stay, Catherine will engage with educators, parents, children, and local representatives, furthering her understanding of early childhood education practices. This visit is particularly notable as it is her first official overseas trip since accompanying Prince William to the US in December 2022.
Catherine’s return to public engagements follows her announcement in January 2025 of being in remission from cancer, a journey she described as life-changing. Her popularity remains high, and this upcoming visit is expected to attract considerable media attention. Additionally, the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which Catherine established in 2021, will release a new guide titled ‘Foundations for Life’ during the trip, emphasizing the importance of social and emotional development in early childhood.
