NSW Shadow Minister for Corrections Tara Moriarty has called out the NSW Government for leaving prison officers out of the covid bonus payment.
Prison officers were critical to our corrective services system during the pandemic, in managing the spread of covid in our prisons.
NSW Labor says they shouldn’t have been excluded from the covid bonus payment.
Tara Moriarty, NSW Shadow Minister for Corrections said:
“Prison officers placed themselves in harms’ way, as with many frontline workers, by ensuring that prisons guarded from the spread of covid.
“Prison officers’ roles are tough enough, let alone with the additional challenges presented by the pandemic.”
Sophie Cotsis, NSW Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations said:
“While this announcement acknowledges the significant efforts of health staff during the pandemic, the government appears to be pitting one group of workers against another.
“The Government must answer why it has not extended the same praise and reward to other important essential workers who have kept the community going through this pandemic.”
