According to BBC News, Bruno Guimaraes scored his first Arsenal goal as the champions beat Sunderland 2-0 to preserve their 100% start to their Premier League title defence. His thunderbolt came 121 seconds after David Raya saved Enzo Le Fee’s penalty at the Stadium of Light.

Raya received Arsenal’s highest BBC Sport rating, an eight, after having little to do until his superb penalty stop while Arsenal were struggling. Guimaraes, introduced at half-time, was rated seven for his decisive strike. Bukayo Saka later won and scored a penalty, although BBC Sport said he had also missed a one-on-one chance late on.

Sunderland’s Dan Ballard and Granit Xhaka were their top-rated players, each receiving seven. Ballard was described as defensively solid, having coped well with Arsenal’s press, though he missed a chance from a Xhaka free-kick before winning the penalty. Xhaka supplied quality set-piece deliveries and made a goal-saving clearance with the final kick of the first half.

Brian Brobbey also earned a seven after using his strength and hold-up play to trouble Ezri Konsa and Ben White, even though he did not have a shot. Robin Roefs made a fine save from Kai Havertz’s acrobatic effort but was marked down for poor distribution.

For Arsenal, Konsa and Myles Lewis-Skelly were given fours. Konsa conceded the penalty for hauling down Ballard, while Lewis-Skelly was judged fortunate to avoid an early booking and was withdrawn at half-time. Sunderland’s Reinildo Mandava also received a four after conceding a late penalty and being sent off.
