According to ABC News, about 700 registered entrants took part in the 12th annual Red CentreNATS in Alice Springs, with more than half travelling from interstate. The four-day car festival featured street cruising, show-and-shine displays, drag racing, burnout competitions and a street parade.

The event, which has been part of the Alice Springs calendar for 12 years, is estimated to boost the local economy by about $5 million each year. Smoke and noise filled the dragway as drivers raced, while vintage and newer muscle cars were displayed at the Alice Springs Convention Centre.

Ben Taylor and his daughter Montana travelled from South Australia for the festival. Montana rode in the passenger seat as her father lined up his classic Ford Falcon XC 393 Stroker for a drag race. She said she loved the experience and hoped to drive the car herself one day.

Local owner Paul Totani raced his pale blue 1984 Holden Kingswood ute on the dirt dragway. He said the vehicle had been in Alice Springs its whole life and was a family heirloom that would later go to his children. Hundreds of cars also rolled through town in the annual street parade, watched by residents lining the route. Volunteer Lisa Morgan said the event helped Alice Springs shine, bringing people together for “the excitement, and the rumbles.”
