The situation at right-back has become more pressing following Jarell Quansah’s red card during England’s recent 3-2 victory over Mexico, which has resulted in his suspension for the upcoming knockout match in Miami.

James, who has been capped 26 times by England, has not yet returned to full training after suffering a hamstring injury in the second group match against Ghana. He has missed subsequent matches against Panama, DR Congo, and Mexico. However, there is emerging hope that the 26-year-old can ease England’s problems at right-back by returning to full training this week.

In the absence of James and with Quansah suspended, Ezri Konsa, who has started all of England’s games at centre-back, was forced to take on the role of right wing-back during the match against Mexico.
