According to ABC News, human remains found in the Goulburn River at Ghin Ghin in north-east Victoria are believed by police to be those of Shane Wilson, a 53-year-old kayaker who went missing in July.

The remains, which have not been formally identified, were found near Ghin Ghin Road on Sunday. Police said Mr Wilson fell overboard on July 18 while fishing from a kayak on the river.

Emergency services were called after a witness on the riverbank raised the alarm. Victoria Police, the Country Fire Authority, Lifesaving Victoria and the State Emergency Service were involved in the search.

An SES spokesperson had said Mr Wilson was a strong swimmer, but was not wearing a life jacket and the current was flowing rapidly. Police are not treating the death as suspicious and will prepare a report for the coroner.

Mr Wilson’s sister, Melissa Teague, paid tribute to her “Brudda” in an online post, writing that she could not believe she was saying goodbye. She said she wished for “one more hug, one more laugh, one more moment” with her brother and would miss him every day.
