Cumberland City Council has officially launched its enhanced 2025/26 Community Grants Program, featuring a new structure with five refined streams. This marks an expansion from the previous model, which offered three generalised funding streams. The revamped program aims to better assist local groups, individuals, and organisations in bringing their community-driven ideas to life. Applications are now open and will close on Monday 8 September 2025, at 5pm.

The program reflects Council’s strong commitment to empowering local communities by fostering knowledge, support, and capacity building. Designed to build stronger, safer, and more inclusive neighbourhoods, the refreshed program puts community voices at its core.

Shaped by valuable feedback from the community and stakeholders, the 2025/26 program takes a more focused, outcomes-based approach to ensure funding targets the evolving needs of the community.

Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed believes the program is well equipped to meet the needs of the community and will play a key role in building a united Cumberland.

“No child should miss out on critical experiences or opportunities because of financial hardship. The new Hardship Assistance for Children and Youth in Education and Sport Grant ensures equity for all young people in our community,” said Mayor Hamed.

“This refreshed program is a direct response to what our community has told us they need. We are proud of the diversity of our community; it’s one of Cumberland’s greatest strengths. This grants program is about more than funding; it’s about investing in the ideas, people and initiatives that make our neighbourhoods safer, more inclusive, and more connected.”

This year’s program introduces five tailored funding streams to support initiatives that enhance wellbeing, connection, learning, inclusion, and celebration of the local community:

  • Safer Communities Grant: Supporting projects that enhance local safety and security.
  • Connected Communities Grant: Funding activities that build and strengthen social connections within Cumberland.
  • Education Access Grant: Assisting programs that improve learning opportunities for Cumberland’s diverse community.
  • Event Support Grant: Providing financial assistance for community festivals and events that bring people together.
  • Hardship Assistance for Children and Youth in Education and Sport Grant: Offering small grants to support young, disadvantaged individuals in accessing educational and sporting opportunities.

To help locals navigate the process and put their best foot forward, Council is offering grant information sessions and one-on-one advisory desks to provide guidance on eligibility, application requirements, budgeting, and tips for enhancing grant writing skills.
