According to BBC News, Matt Richardson has been withdrawn from Great Britain’s squad for this week’s World Track Cycling Championships in Shanghai.
British Cycling confirmed the 27-year-old Olympic medallist had been removed from the team, but did not provide a reason. The organisation declined to comment when approached about allegations, first reported by The Times, that the decision was linked to a misconduct investigation.
Richardson was named in the British squad last Wednesday for the championships, scheduled to run from 14 to 18 October. He had been expected to compete for medals in the team sprint, individual sprint and keirin.
The rider changed sporting allegiance from Australia to Great Britain after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. At those Games, he won two silver medals and one bronze for Australia.
Richardson also missed his anticipated England debut at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July after crashing during a keirin event in Japan. BBC Sport said it had approached his representatives for comment.
