Recently Maharashtra Police has arrested a female named Riya Barde alias Riya Arvinda Barde alias Arohi Barde alias Bonya Sheikh on allegations of illegally staying in India with a passport obtained using fake information and working in the adult film industry.

According to Bollywood Life, she has a connection with Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra’s production company. Riya, 22-year-old though is shown as an illegal infiltrator from Bangladesh, in reality, she and her family members belong to the Rohingya community from Myanmar. Various sources claim, currently there are around nine million Rohingyas illegally residing in India.

A case has been registered against them under sections 420, 465, 468, 479, 34, and 14A of the Indian Penal Code. An investigation has been continuing around her connection with Mumbai-based pornography rackets.

Riya stays in India with her parents, brother and sisters. Her mother Ruby Sheikh got married to Arvind Barde, a resident of Amravati to stay in India.

Ruby Sheikh later claimed to be a resident of West Bengal and changed her name to Anjali and has been illegally staying in India. As per reports in Zee News, Riya has been connected to Raj Kundra’s production company. She has also appeared in several movies and also did a project with Gehana Vasisth.

According to media reports, Arvind Barde is not only involved in preparing forged documents for Riya Barde and her family members, he also falsely registered himself as the father on the documents in order to manage Indian passports and other necessary documents.

Riya was earlier arrested by Mumbai police in a prostitution case under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The inspector who was leading this case revealed that she is a Bangladeshi national living illegally in India with her two sisters and brother. Her mother got married to an Indian and obtained an Indian passport using fake birth certificates and other fraudulent documents.

A report in Republic says that Riya’s parents are currently in Qatar and the police are now looking for sister, Ritu aka Moni Sheikh and her brother, Ravindra alias Riyaz Sheikh.

According to the police reports, an investigation into Riya Barde’s identity had begun a year ago, revealing that her birth certificate, school leaving certificate and passport listed three different places of birth – West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Achalpur in Maharashtra’s Amravati district.

The police told The Times of India that Riya Barde was an adult film actress who had been employed in projects done by Raj Kundra productions. She also worked alongside performer Gehana Vasisth in several films.

According to film site IMDB she is well-known for her work in a film called Aamras (2023).

India Today in its report says, Riya’s parents are currently residing in Qatar.

Meanwhile, according to our own investigation it has been revealed that Riya was frequently visiting Qatar along with her sister Ritu Barde and was giving company to wealthy Qataris and foreign nationals, where her mother Anjali is running a private brothel and sex racket. Anjali has also been maintaining connections with Myanmar-based drug trafficking and money-laundering rackets.

It is further learnt, Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra was supplying Riya Barde to wealthy Arab and Pakistani clients in Qatar and Dubai.

Commenting on the case of arrest of Riya Barde, Amita Sachdeva, practicing lawyer at the Delhi High Court told BLiTZ:

I am shocked to see the news of Bangladeshi porn star Riya Barde, who has been arrested for illegally living in Maharashtra on fake documents. This news should compel the Indian government to take the issue of illegally staying Rohingyas seriously.

This is a serious matter that requires immediate intervention by the government.

The recent case of an illegal infiltrator obtaining an Indian passport raises serious concerns about the integrity of our immigration and citizenship systems. It reveals weaknesses that can be exploited by individuals seeking to bypass legal channels. This situation not only compromises national security but also poses significant risks due to the presence of Rohingya individuals, who are often viewed as a threat to our country’s stability. We have heard of many examples of Rohingyas engaging in anti-national activities.

The ability of illegal immigrants to obtain Indian passports poses potential security threats. If individuals can exploit loopholes, it becomes challenging to monitor who is entering and residing in the country, leading to broader implications for national safety.

Advocate Amita Sachdeva further stated:

Incidents like this can erode public trust in government institutions responsible for immigration and security. Citizens expect rigorous standards for passport issuance and citizenship verification; when these are compromised, it fuels skepticism and fear.

The situation underscores the need for a comprehensive review of existing policies and practices related to citizenship. There may be gaps that need to be addressed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As a nation, India must prioritize the security and safety of its citizens while managing immigration. Striking a balance between security measures and humanitarian considerations is essential but should not compromise national integrity.

Further, this case serves as a wake-up call for policymakers to reassess the mechanisms in place for issuing citizenship and passports. Addressing the systemic issues that allow illegal infiltrators to exploit the system is crucial for maintaining national security and ensuring that our country remains safe and stable. A focused approach that prioritizes security needs is essential for developing effective immigration policies moving forward.
