Arabic version: روسترز يسعون للثأر من برونكوس في نهائي NRLW الكبير
According to The Guardian, the unbeaten Sydney Roosters will seek to avenge last year’s grand-final loss to the Brisbane Broncos when the teams meet in the 2026 NRLW decider at Accor Stadium on Sunday. Brisbane won the previous final 22-18 after the Roosters had entered unbeaten.
The match will be Ali Brigginshaw’s final NRLW appearance after two decades as a pioneer of women’s rugby league. The Broncos captain has played 66 NRLW games and 29 matches for Australia. Her coach, Scott Prince, said he hoped an award would be named after her, while Brigginshaw called for the appointment of a head of women’s football as the game considers investment under the broadcast deal announced this year.
Roosters fullback Corban Baxter and forward Millie Elliott will also retire after the final. Elliott, who missed last season on maternity leave, said her mother had moved in to help her return to football while caring for her daughter, Gigi. Sydney coach John Strange said the return of playmaker Tarryn Aiken, alongside five-eighth Jocelyn Kelleher, strengthens the Roosters after Aiken’s absence from last year’s decider.
The halves contest also offers an audition for the Jillaroos’ World Cup squad. Brisbane’s Jesse Southwell will partner Brigginshaw, while Tamika Upton arrives after winning the Dally M women’s player of the year award. Upton has been involved in almost half of the tries scored by the Broncos this season, as Brisbane seek another premiership and Sydney pursue redemption.
