According to ABC News, six ultra-endurance athletes have completed a 4,000-kilometre relay from Cottesloe Beach in Perth to Bondi Beach in Sydney to raise awareness and funds for domestic violence support service Beyond DV.

The Project Australia runners crossed the Nullarbor in 15 days, operating around the clock with one athlete moving at every hour of the day and night. Between shifts, they rested and refuelled in one of three support vehicles. Each athlete ran about 666 kilometres over the two-week effort.

Hayden Sumner said the overnight runs prompted him to think about victims of domestic violence. His mother died by suicide when he was seven, and he later learned her death was largely due to her struggles with domestic violence and abusive partners.

Mr Sumner previously ran 785 kilometres solo in 2025 in support of Beyond DV. The organisation supports women and children affected by domestic violence through financial literacy programs, employment support and long-term independence strategies.

The runners arrived outside Bondi Pavilion on Monday afternoon after 15 days on the road, embracing in tearful hugs. Mr Sumner said he could not be more proud of his fellow runners.
