According to ABC News, the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal has upheld an indefinite ban on health care worker Adrian Fabio Mangini, finding his conduct involved an overt abuse of vulnerable consumers’ health and safety and dishonest advertising.

Mangini had provided services including “hypnogym”, hypnotherapy and yoga before the Community Services Complaints Commissioner banned him from practising indefinitely in 2024. He sought a tribunal review, but a judgment published earlier this year upheld the commissioner’s decision and previous findings.

The tribunal considered a YouTube claim that Mangini made a woman with a non-ambulatory disability walk after an 11-minute consultation involving hypnosis and encouraging words. Senior SACAT member Jacqueline Rugless said there was no evidence the woman had previously been disabled, could not walk, or could only walk with a frame.

SACAT also upheld a finding that Mangini claimed he could cure cancer. The judgment said he privately messaged a client about helping another client become 10 years cancer-free, representing that he was able to cure cancer. It further upheld a finding that he engaged in behaviour of a sexual or close personal nature with a client.

Rugless said Mangini had shown no insight or remorse and continued to pose a risk to the public. The tribunal rejected his contention that the proceedings stemmed from a vendetta or racist motivation, saying the allegations had been independently verified. Mangini has appealed SACAT’s decision to South Australia’s Supreme Court.
