Safaa Hassan wins bronze weightlifting medal in Paris Paralympics

Egyptian national weightlifting team member Safaa Hassan won the bronze medal in the 79kg weightlifting competitions at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Hassan won after outperforming her Irish competitor, Britney Arendse.

She succeeded in lifting 134 kg in the first attempt, then 139 kg in the second attempt, but was unable to lift 146 kg in the third and final attempt.

With this medal, the Egyptian delegation’s tally in the Paris Paralympic Games rises to six medals, five of which are for weightlifting – two gold medals for Mohamed al-Meniawy and Rehab Radwan, two silver medals for Fatima Mahrous and Mohamed Sobhi, a bronze medal for Safaa Hassan, and a bronze medal for the sitting volleyball team.

Mohamed Sobhi won the silver medal in the weightlifting competitions at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Sobhi competed in the 88 kg weight class and came in second place.

He succeeded in lifting 224 kg to secure the silver medal. The Egyptian delegation is ranked 39th in the Paris 2024 Paralympics so far.
