Arabic version: رفض الإفراج بكفالة عن سام وود في اتهامات بالعنف الأسري
According to ABC News, former Bachelor and fitness influencer Sam Wood has been denied bail after being charged with domestic violence offences following his arrest in Noosa. Wood, who is from Melbourne, appeared by video link in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Police allege Wood became involved in a family argument after returning to an apartment following dinner on Saturday night. The court heard the argument concerned packing for a flight home on Sunday. Acting Magistrate Janelle Boegheim said it was alleged Wood pushed his wife, Snezana Wood, into a wardrobe, then grabbed her by the throat and threw her against a hallway wall.
Ms Boegheim said it was further alleged Wood threw the complainant to the ground while holding her throat, restricting her airway and preventing her from breathing. Prosecutor Sergeant Jeanette Grigoris told the court the complainant’s video-recorded statement was “strong evidence” and said an adult stepdaughter made a Triple Zero call to police.
The prosecution opposed bail, citing photographs of the complainant’s injuries and a responding paramedic’s statement. Sergeant Grigoris said Wood had been in Noosa on holidays and posed a risk of not returning to face the charges. His lawyer, Mathew Cuskelly, said Wood may be entitled to a self-defence argument and had no prior criminal offending. In refusing bail, Ms Boegheim described the police case as “relatively strong”. Wood was remanded in custody until November 23.
