Comedian Sara Pascoe has expressed pride in those who undergo IVF treatment, emphasizing the emotional and physical challenges involved. According to BBC News, Pascoe, who has two sons conceived through IVF, shared her thoughts during an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.
Pascoe, 44, reflected on her personal experiences with fertility issues, stating that discussing IVF in her stand-up routines offers a positive perspective on a topic many find isolating. She noted the difficulty in addressing infertility in her comedy until her eldest son, Theo, was eight months old, as it felt too raw at first.
The comedian highlighted the importance of sharing her journey once she felt secure in her family’s outcome. “It was really like: ‘I definitely have a son. He survived. He’s alive, he’s here,'” she remarked. This shift allowed her to connect with others who may be at various stages of their own fertility journeys.
Pascoe also touched on her openness regarding personal topics, such as her abortion at 17, which she included in her autobiography. She believes that sharing her experiences is more significant than maintaining privacy, stating, “I think the thing about me in the oversharing is that the sharing always feels like so much more important than any privacy.”
The full episode of Desert Island Discs featuring Pascoe will be available on BBC Sounds starting Sunday at 10:00 GMT.
