According to BBC News, Robbie Savage has begun his first managerial role at an EFL club after being appointed Peterborough United boss. Chairman Darragh MacAnthony said the board were impressed by Savage’s personality, character and mindset, and his desire to restore confidence in the squad.
Savage succeeds Luke Williams with Peterborough second bottom of League One. The former Wales midfielder started his management career at Macclesfield FC, where his only season brought promotion from the Northern Premier League Premier Division after the side scored 109 goals and collected 109 points.
He then joined Forest Green Rovers in July 2025 and led the club to the National League play-offs in his only full season, before the campaign ended against Boreham Wood. Forest Green are 13th after 11 matches, having recorded four wins, three draws and four defeats.
BBC Radio Gloucestershire reporter Paul Furley described Savage’s approach as “relentless”. Savage has said he prefers entertaining, attacking football and would rather win 5-4 than 1-0. Furley said he favours a 4-2-3-1 formation, while Forest Green’s goals scored rose from 69 to 82 in his full season, with goals conceded increasing from 42 to 52.
Savage will continue his punditry commitments alongside the Peterborough role, including co-hosting BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606. Supporters from Forest Green and Macclesfield praised his connection with fans, while Barry Fry told Posh supporters they were “lucky people” following the appointment.
