According to BBC News, world number one Scottie Scheffler will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the St Jude Championship, the opening event of the FedEx Cup play-offs.

Scheffler carded a two-under-par 68 on Saturday to reach 13 under overall at TPC Southwind in Memphis. American Sam Burns and South Korea’s Im Sung-jae are tied second on 11 under, while Burns surged into contention with a bogey-free 62.

England’s defending FedEx Cup champion Tommy Fleetwood is tied with American Jake Knapp at eight under. Sweden’s Alex Noren is at seven under and Norway’s Viktor Hovland is a stroke further back.

Scheffler and close friend Burns will play together in the final pairing. “Strategy is still the same, just go out there and execute,” Scheffler said. “It will be a competition like normal. It will be fun being out there with your friend but it’s also a bit weird.”

Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose fell well off the pace after costly closing holes. McIlroy made a double-bogey six on the 18th after driving into water, while Rose made a triple-bogey seven after finding the hazard twice. Both are six over. The top 50 in the FedEx standings after the weekend progress to next week’s BMW Championship.
