Arabic version: لقاء عند بوابة المدرسة قاد إلى شراكة دائمة

According to ABC News, Casey Beros first met Ryan Gowland while collecting a child from school for a family she was nannying for. Gowland, a teacher who knew the child’s family and car, leaned into the vehicle expecting to greet the mother before realising Beros was someone else. The pair exchanged numbers after discussing whether the child had gone home with a friend.

Gowland later called to confirm the child had received a lift, and Beros said she did not want the conversation to end. She recalled thinking she would marry him. Beros, 42, and Gowland, 46, have now been together for 12 years and live in Perth with their two children. The family for whom Beros worked remains part of their lives; its parents emceed the couple’s wedding.

The couple describe mutual encouragement as a central strength of their relationship. Beros said they support one another’s interests, from courses and events to family visits and golf trips, even when the timing is inconvenient. Gowland said they also seek practical ways to make daily life easier for each other while raising children.

They have navigated significant family losses together. Gowland’s mother died in 2019, about six weeks after a glioblastoma diagnosis. In June 2021, while the family was in Wagga Wagga for Gowland’s master’s graduation, Beros learned that her father had been diagnosed with mesothelioma. They travelled to Western Australia, where border closures during COVID-19 left them unable to return to Sydney. Gowland resigned from his 12-year role as deputy principal at a boys’ school to remain in Perth. Beros’s father died in November 2023.

Gowland said Beros brings zest, adventure and fun to their life, while Beros described him as a consistently kind and generous presence. Both said they value being each other’s biggest cheerleaders.
