According to ABC News, Australian rider Senna Agius has signed to race in MotoGP with KTM Tech3 in 2027. The 21-year-old Sydneysider will be the only Australian on the grid and will ensure Australia has a full-time rider in motorcycle racing’s premier class for a 43rd consecutive year.

Agius is currently fourth in the Moto2 standings after finishing 10th in 2025. He has four Moto2 grand prix victories, including wins at the Circuit of the Americas in the United States and Jerez in Spain earlier this season. He also won his home Moto2 grand prix at Phillip Island last year.

“Today a lifelong dream of mine has come true, reaching MotoGP,” Agius said. “So many years of hard work have gone into this moment and I’m incredibly grateful to Guenther and everyone at Tech3 for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”

KTM Tech3 has former Formula One team principal Guenther Steiner as its chief executive. Agius said he understood the challenge ahead and was ready to learn and work hard with the team. His 2027 schedule will include the maiden Australian Grand Prix at the new Adelaide street circuit.

Australia has had a full-time rider in the premier class since 1985. In the modern grand prix era, which began in 2002 when 500cc two-stroke bikes were replaced by 990cc four-stroke machines, Agius will become the 11th full-time Australian rider. He will take Australia’s sole place on the 2027 MotoGP grid after Jack Miller ends his 12-year MotoGP stint to move to World Superbikes.
