According to The Guardian, Shadab Khan struck an unbeaten 113 to lead Pakistan to a remarkable one-wicket win over England and secure the hosts’ place in the tri-series final. Pakistan had slumped to 154 for nine in pursuit of 242, still 88 runs short, before Shadab and Haris Rauf transformed the contest.
Rauf, who made seven from 19 balls, stayed with Shadab in an unbeaten last-wicket partnership. Shadab was initially given out lbw to a full toss on 97 and began walking off after shaking hands with England players, but a review found an inside edge. He then reached his first international hundred by dabbing a Gus Atkinson yorker for four.
With victory close, Rauf argued over a wide with Will Jacks and had to be ushered away by Joe Root. He then drove Henry Crocombe for four to complete the win. England had earlier been bowled out for 241 with 20 balls unused, despite Ben Duckett making 105 for his fifth ODI century and first against Pakistan.
Pakistan had won the toss and bowled. Shaheen Shah Afridi took four wickets, including Tom Banton for his 150th ODI wicket, while Razaullah collected two. Duckett and Sam Curran, who scored 42, added 93 after England lost four early wickets. England’s final five wickets contributed 96 runs.
In the chase, Atkinson removed Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam, while Crocombe took the wicket of Saim Ayub on his ODI debut. Saad Baig scored 32, but Pakistan lost wickets regularly as Liam Dawson, Curran, Jamie Overton and Jacks applied pressure. Shadab and Rauf, however, overturned what had appeared to be an England victory.
