According to ABC News, Cronulla defeated St George Illawarra 16-8 at Sydney Football Stadium in the final round of NRLW action, handing the Dragons the wooden spoon. Neither side was in finals contention, but the Sharks secured their first back-to-back wins of 2026 after upsetting the Warriors in Auckland the previous week.

The Dragons led 4-0 at half-time after front-rower Ruby-Jean Kennard-Ellis powered over from 12 metres out in an opening period that featured 15 errors. Cronulla responded quickly after the break. Half Chantay Kiria-Ratu delivered a short ball for China Polata, who ran 50 metres to score two minutes into the second half. Georgia Hannaway then crossed from dummy half, before Ellie Johnston made it three Sharks tries within 13 minutes.

Dragons centre Tyra Ekepati was sin-binned for a high shot, although St George Illawarra held firm during her 10-minute absence. Shenae Ciesiolka scored a consolation try in her 50th NRLW appearance, but the Dragons could not catch Cronulla.

Earlier, Parramatta came from 16 points down to beat North Queensland 33-28 at Western Sydney Stadium. The Eels scored five second-half tries and finished 2026 with four wins from their final five starts after losing their opening six matches. Rachael Pearson kicked a one-pointer with four minutes remaining before Rory Owen sealed the result with a 90-metre effort. The Cowboys had led 22-6 after second-half tries to Alisha Foord and Makenzie Weale, while Charlize Lloyd-Phillips suffered a suspected ACL injury after scoring in the fourth minute. Both Saturday matches used the experimental rule allowing a side conceding a try to choose whether to kick off or receive.
