According to BBC News, Callum Simpson reclaimed the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles with a unanimous-decision victory over Troy Williamson in their rematch in Leeds.

Simpson avenged the only defeat of his professional career after Williamson had stopped him in the 10th round in December. The judges scored the rematch 116-112, 117-112 and 115-113 in favour of Simpson, who improved his record to 19 wins and one loss.

The 29-year-old, working under new trainer Rob McCracken, hurt Williamson with a big right hand in the third round. Williamson, 34, stayed in the contest and caught Simpson in the eighth before pressing for a knockout in the final round, but his late push did not change the result.

“It feels amazing,” Simpson said. “I really didn’t want it to be that exciting, but Troy is a tough fighter. He won the last fight so he [had] every right to be confident.” Simpson said he had perforated both eardrums in the first round of their previous bout, adding that he had returned “better” and knew he would win the rematch.

Williamson, whose record is now 22-5 with one draw, had been stripped of the European belt when an immediate rematch was triggered, meaning Simpson did not regain that title. Simpson’s promoter Ben Shalom called the fight “unbelievable” and said he hoped to secure Simpson a world-title opportunity within the next 12 months.
