Arabic version: إعادة فتح مركز تسوق شارع سميث بعد بلاغ تهديد كاذب
According to ABC News, Darwin’s Smith Street Mall has reopened after Northern Territory Police determined a reported “credible threat” was false.
Workers had earlier been evacuated from the mall’s Darwin Innovation Hub building, while residents were advised to avoid the area. Police cordoned off the mall and carried out what Acting Senior Sergeant Kodi Adcock described as a thorough investigation.
“Earlier this morning the Northern Territory Police received a credible threat targeting the Smith Street Mall,” Acting Senior Sergeant Adcock said. He said the investigation resulted in the matter being deemed a false report.
After the cordon was removed, Adcock said members of the public could resume their normal activities. He added that NT Police take every threat seriously and would “show up in force.”
NT Police were expected to provide a further update later on Tuesday.
