Arabic version: جنوب أفريقيا تهيمن على الهند في افتتاح سوبر 8s بكأس العالم T20
South Africa showcased their strength in the T20 World Cup with a commanding 76-run victory over defending champions India in their Super 8s opener in Ahmedabad. This match marked a rematch of the 2024 final, which India won by seven runs.
South Africa set a challenging target of 188 runs after recovering from an early collapse at 20-3. David Miller starred with a rapid 63 runs off 35 balls, while Dewald Brevis contributed 45 runs from 29 deliveries. Their partnership was crucial in stabilizing the innings after the top order faltered.
India, who entered the match with an unbeaten record in the group stage, struggled during their chase. They found themselves in dire straits at 51-5 by the 10th over, eventually being bowled out for just 111 runs. Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj led South Africa’s bowling attack, claiming four and three wickets respectively.
The defeat puts India in a precarious position, requiring a win against Zimbabwe in Chennai to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. Meanwhile, South Africa will remain in Ahmedabad to face the West Indies on Wednesday.
According to BBC News, South Africa’s performance solidifies their status as serious contenders in the tournament.
