The Acting Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–In Opposition (SPLM-IO), Oyet Nathaniel, has firmly denied reports circulating on social media claiming that he has resigned from the movement.

In a statement addressing the allegations, Oyet dismissed what he described as misinformation, including a document purportedly issued by the Chairman’s office. He clarified that he has neither resigned from his duties nor received any authorisation or resignation letter, reiterating that he remains the Acting Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–In Opposition.

Posting on his official Facebook account, Oyet urged the public to disregard the alleged document. He emphasised that within a revolutionary struggle, politics and the military are inseparable, stating that there can be no politics without the military and no military without politics. He further explained that his office is constitutionally established under Article 29 (1)(3), read together with Article 28 of the SPLM-IO Constitution of 2015. Oyet also reflected on the prolonged suffering endured by the people of South Sudan.

Before joining the SPLM-IO in 2014 following the outbreak of civil war, Oyet served as Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Juba. He later held the position of First Deputy Speaker in the Transitional Government of National Unity led by President Salva Kiir.
