A man in his 40s remains in “serious condition” in hospital following a stabbing incident that occurred on Kinnaird Avenue at about 22:30 BST on Monday. Police responded to the scene, resulting in one man being arrested and taken into custody.

According to BBC News, the justice minister commended the brave individuals who intervened to disarm the attacker, urging the public not to share graphic images from the incident. Naomi Long described the footage as deeply disturbing and traumatizing.

Local officials condemned the violence, with the deputy first minister labeling it a “shocking and brutal act of violence”. Emma Little-Pengelly emphasized that such acts of hatred have no place in society and reiterated the community’s right to feel safe.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 22:39 BST, dispatching an emergency ambulance and advanced paramedic to provide initial treatment before transporting the victim to the Royal Victoria Hospital. Community leaders expressed their shock, with some residents reportedly traumatized by witnessing the attack.

Paul McCusker, an independent councillor, spoke about the bravery of local residents who intervened, while others in the community voiced their concerns about the implications of the incident. The Ulster Unionist Party leader also described the attack as barbaric, noting its impact not just in Northern Ireland but across the entire United Kingdom.
