According to ABC News, Australia defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 51 runs in Mackay, completing a comprehensive response after its Darwin disaster. Bangladesh were dismissed for 95 in their second innings on day two, having earlier faced Australia’s total of 210.

Mitchell Starc was named player of the match and player of the series after taking 12 wickets at 12.08 across the series. The left-arm quick claimed 10 wickets in the Mackay Test, including Taijul Islam’s dismissal for 7, which gave Starc figures of 10-45 for the match — the second-best figures of his career.

Australia’s bowling attack left Bangladesh eight down at tea on 95, still 51 runs behind. Starc had 4-39 at that point, while captain Pat Cummins had taken 3-10 from 10 overs. After tea, Nathan Lyon dismissed Taskin with a delivery that found the edge, with Steve Smith taking the catch.

The final wicket came when Shoriful Islam edged to Starc at point, where the Australian took his third catch of the innings. Bangladesh’s 95 marked the first time the side had failed to score 100 in either innings of a Test match. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said the extra bounce and swing had challenged his team, while describing the series as a “very proud moment” for Bangladesh.
