According to ABC News, Australia completed a victory over Bangladesh in Mackay on the second day of the second Test, making it the 29th Test match in history to finish within two days. Mitchell Starc was again decisive, taking 4-39 in Bangladesh’s second innings and finishing with 10-51 for the match, the second-best match figures of his career.

Bangladesh left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam also made a major impact. He ended Australia’s innings with 7-48, described as the best return by a Bangladeshi bowler playing away from home. His dismissal of Cameron Green, who had been set on 67, came through a late-swinging yorker that struck Green’s toe before a DRS review confirmed the LBW decision.

Starc quickly returned the pressure in Bangladesh’s second innings. With his eighth delivery, he had Shadman Islam caught at point off a leading edge after extracting extra bounce. The next ball struck the top of Mominul Haque’s off stump as the batter attempted to leave. Across the match, Shoriful and Starc combined for 13 of the 20 wickets to fall, with left-arm seamers returning overall figures of 13-60.

Australia’s fielding also featured Steve Smith’s one-handed slip catch to dismiss Taskin Ahmed from Nathan Lyon’s bowling. Taskin had struck a large six before tea but fell on the first ball of the evening session. Bangladesh’s final wicket followed two balls later when Shoriful edged Lyon to Starc at point, ending a session in which two wickets fell in three deliveries.

The result was Australia’s fourth two-day Test on home soil in the past 20 Tests played in the country. Of 2,632 Tests played, only 29 have concluded inside two days. Five of those have been in Australia, including matches against South Africa in 2022 and two during last summer’s Ashes in Perth and at the MCG.
