Arabic version: ستيفن كولبرت يستضيف عرض الوصول العام بعد يوم واحد من مغادرته CBS
Stephen Colbert hosted the public access show Only in Monroe in Monroe, Michigan, on May 22, 2026, just one day after his final appearance on CBS’s The Late Show. According to The Guardian, Colbert’s tenure on The Late Show ended after CBS canceled the program due to a financial decision made by its parent company, Paramount.
Colbert, who had been hosting The Late Show since 2015, previously guest-hosted Only in Monroe in 2015 before taking over the CBS show. During the recent episode, notable guests included musician Jack White and actor Jeff Daniels, along with special appearances by Steve Buscemi, Eminem, and Byron Allen.
In a light-hearted remark during the show, Colbert expressed his relief at returning to television, stating, “It’s been an excruciating 23 hours without being on TV, so I am grateful to be able to be here on Monroe Community Media before they also get acquired by Paramount.”
The cancellation of The Late Show was part of a broader context involving a delayed merger between Paramount and Skydance, which faced scrutiny and legal challenges. Critics have suggested that the cancellation may have been influenced by Colbert’s outspoken criticism of former President Trump, who has targeted several late-night hosts in recent months.
In a response to Colbert’s departure, Trump shared an AI-generated video on social media that depicted him throwing Colbert into a dumpster, followed by a dance routine, further escalating the ongoing tensions between Trump and late-night television personalities.
