An amber wind alert has been issued for parts of the UK as Storm Dave approaches. The storm is expected to bring wind gusts of up to 80mph, particularly impacting southern Scotland, northern England, and Wales. According to BBC News, five separate weather warnings will take effect on Saturday, with snow forecasted for the west Highlands, Argyll, and the Western Isles starting at 14:00.

All of Scotland is under various wind alerts, with power company SSEN predicting gusts could reach about 80mph in the Western Isles and Skye. Orkney and Shetland are also expected to experience high winds on Sunday. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa) advises travelers to exercise caution, as public transport and road travel may be affected.

Northern Ireland will be hit with high winds first from 14:00, followed by southern Scotland and northern Wales and England at 17:00, under yellow warnings. Stronger winds are anticipated in amber zones starting from 19:00, while the rest of Scotland will see strong winds from 18:00. All warnings are expected to expire by midday on Sunday.

A spokesperson from the Met Office indicated that Storm Dave is a rapidly deepening low-pressure system moving northeast across northwestern parts of the UK. Peak gusts of 50-60 mph are likely fairly widely, with 60-70 mph in more exposed locations. The storm may also create large waves, leading to hazardous conditions along windward coasts.

Police Scotland has advised the public to delay journeys if possible, cautioning that stopping distances can double on wet roads. HGV and bus drivers are urged to drive carefully and may be directed to park by police. ScotRail has recommended passengers check updates via social media and its website, while ferry operator CalMac warned of potential disruptions and amended timetables. The Met Office has also issued a yellow warning for heavy snow and blizzards from 14:00 Saturday to 03:00 Sunday, predicting significant snowfall in higher areas.

By late Sunday, it is expected that the worst of the weather should have cleared, bringing a temporary end to the severe conditions brought by Storm Dave.
