Arabic version: ستورم هانتر تكمل إنجاز التأهل للبطولات الأربع الكبرى
According to ABC News, Storm Hunter has become the only active Australian tennis player to qualify for the main draw at all four grand slams after advancing at the US Open.
The 32-year-old will return to the Flushing Meadows main draw for the first time since 2023 when the New York tournament begins on Monday. Hunter will face 11th seed Marta Kostyuk in the first round.
Hunter’s qualifying run included a win over compatriot and friend Maddison Inglis, surviving two match points in her second match and a 24-hour weather delay before completing a third consecutive sudden-death victory.
“This is the last slam on my list to tick off to get through qualies and coming in I hadn’t played many singles matches in the last few months so, yeah, it feels amazing,” Hunter said. She has returned after missing more than a year with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Hunter is among six Australians scheduled to play on Monday. Kim Birrell meets Petra Marcinko, Talia Gibson faces Donna Vekic, Taylah Preston plays Alycia Parks, while Adam Walton takes on Yibing Wu and Aleksandar Vukic faces Rei Sakamoto. Alex de Minaur opens his campaign on Tuesday.
