According to ABC News, wild weather across South Australia brought wind gusts close to 100 kilometres per hour, lightning, rain and power outages over the weekend, while a large tree limb crushed the back of a parked car at an Adelaide cafe.

State Emergency Service state duty officer Ian Bonython said crews received 60 calls for assistance in the 24 hours from 7am Saturday. Most jobs were in northern Adelaide suburbs and the Port Augusta area, where about 20 taskings were received within half an hour. The work was largely related to fallen trees and damage to roofs and fences.

In Hyde Park, Hello Neighbour co-owner Laura Edmunds said a large branch fell in the customer parking lot, crushing two cars. She said nobody was inside the vehicles. The owner of one relatively new car had a grandchild baby seat in it and was relieved no-one had been hurt.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster David Crock said a tropical air mass over Queensland and a cold front off southern Australia had produced a rain band across South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. Gusts of 96 to 98 kilometres per hour were recorded at several locations late Saturday, including Port Augusta.

Rainfall since 9am Saturday reached 15 to 20 millimetres through Adelaide and the hills, with 25 to 30 millimetres reported in parts of eastern South Australia. SA Power Networks said about 12,000 customers lost power between midday Saturday and 10am Sunday, with approximately 500 still without electricity as crews worked across several regions. The system was expected to clear later as it moved towards the eastern states.
