According to ABC News, Fremantle’s Mim Strom helped coach the ruck from the bench after injuring her shoulder during the Dockers’ 25-point AFLW road win over Richmond in Indigenous Round.
The two-time All-Australian ruck was hurt after a first-quarter tackle from Tigers midfielder Emelia Yassir at Princes Park. Recruit Eden Zanker moved into the ruck, while Gabby O’Sullivan kicked three goals as Fremantle won 9.6 (60) to 5.5 (35).
Coach Lisa Webb said at three-quarter time that Strom had been “a ruck coach on the side” and described her as “a warrior for us”. Fremantle improved to 2-2 and could finish the fourth week of the 12-fixture competition in the top eight, though the club is bracing to lose Strom for part of its finals push.
Richmond was without late withdrawal Monique Conti, who has Achilles soreness, as well as Fina Dethlefsen. Isabel Bacon led the game with 24 disposals and six clearances, while Olivia Wolmarans kicked two goals. The Tigers also sit at 2-2 and could fall as low as 13th.
In the later match at Kardinia Park, Aishling Moloney kicked four goals as Geelong defeated winless Essendon 13.5 (83) to 7.9 (51). Mikayla Bowen collected 40 disposals for Geelong, which moved to 3-1, while Georgie Prespakis had 27 disposals and five clearances.
